The Android OS has been popping up in all kinds of form factors from smart watches to smart refrigerators. Archos, a brand name that is well known for its media players has launched the Arnova Soundpad, an Android powered clock radio device.
The Arnova Soundpad is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 1.2 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM, 8GB Flash and comes with Android 4.0. These are very mediocre specifications for an Android tablet device but they most likely make the Arnova Soundpad the most most powerful clock radio on the planet.
It comes with a 7 inch 1024 x 600 resolution capacitive touch screen sandwiched between a couple of 10 watts speakers and it has both WiFi and wired Ethernet. For additional storage there is an SD memory expansion slot and it even comes with a front facing camera and built-in microphone for video conferencing. Last but not least, it packs a G-sensor which will come in really handy when you need to silence the alarm in the morning as you can just give the Soundpad a good whack!
Currently it is only available from Amazon.de and it going to set you back about EUR 150 (US$ 205) if you want one.
