The Samsung HomeSync is Samsung’s entry into the Android mini PC product category. However, unlike the other Android TV stick and set top box devices, the HomeSync is marketed as a content sharing and storage device that supports up to 8 separate accounts.
The whole idea is to have each family member having his or her account. Each member then uses the HomeSync to sync content that they want to share from their own private devices like a smartphone or tablet with other family members. Members can also sync private content that is encrypted and password protected on to the HomeSync. The HomeSync comes with a 1 TB drive for data storage.
The HomeSync will of course run on Android and has full access to the Google Play Store. This means that you can run most Android apps on the HomeSync including games and watching online content. You can also stream content from your Samsung Galaxy device wirelessly to your TV via HomeSync in full HD.
The device features a GAIA 1.7 GHz Cortex A15 dual core processor with 1GB DDR3 RAM and 8GB flash storage on top of the 1 TB drive. It has a Gigabit Ethernet connector, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth V4.0, 2 USB ports and a micro USB OTG.
For control, you can use an Android phone or tablet similar to using Droidmote or the Rockchip RK Remote app on RK3066 based devices. The Samsung HomeSync is expected to available from April 2013 onwards.
