The Tronsmart MK908 seems to be yet another quad core RK3188 Android mini PC from Tronsmart. It was just less than 2 weeks ago when the Tronsmart T428 started shipping after a couple of delays. The T428 is also based on the Rockchip RK3188 SoC so that is why it seems strange that the MK908 is released now with similar hardware specification. Also, do not confuse this with the similarly named MK809 IV that I posted not too long ago.
Looks wise, the Tronsmart MK908 bears more than just a resemblance to the MK808, a dual core Rockchip RK3066 based TV stick. It looks like the MK808’s housing has been recycled with the internals being upgraded to the quad core RK3188.
The rest of the MK908’s specification mirrors that of the earlier launched T428. Besides the RK3188 chip, it has 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 8 GB of Nand Flash for storage. Additional memory is supported via an external micro SD slot that supports up to 32 GB micro SD cards. For HDMI, the MK908 uses the same mini female HDMI port as the MK808 while the T428 has the more common standard male HDMI port.
For connectivity, the MK908 has WiFi 802.11 b/g/n as well as Bluetooth 4.0. Like the T428, it also has a single USB 2.0 host and a micro USB port for power. The only other notable difference between the two is that the MK908 comes with Android 4.1 for the OS while the T428 comes pre-loaded with Android 4.2. The specification for the MK809 does mention that an Android 4.2 update will be made available soon though. I am very sure that the Android 4.2 OS on the T428 will run with no problems on the MK809 as they are essentially the same device with a different shell.
Price wise though, the Tronsmart MK908 is selling for around $90 while the T428 is selling at closer to $100. Since they seem to be the same device, I would go for the MK908 and save myself that $10. It is also available from Amazon at closer to the $100 price point.
