Tronsmart T428 Quad Core RK3188 Android Mini PCThe new Tronsmart T428 quad core Rockchip RK3188 Cortex A9 Android Mini PC is about to be released soon. Tronsmart is of course the manufacturer of the Tronsmart Prometheus, the Amlogic CPU based Android set top box that is shaped like a futuristic space ship.

The RK3188 is the next generation Cortex A9 chip from Rockchip. It has a 28nm quad core CPU that runs at speeds up to 1.8 GHz. The predecessor, RK3066, is a dual core Cortex A9 processor with a 1.6 GHz maximum clock speed. The RK3188 is able to output to dual displays at up to 2048 x 1536 resolution each. This means that the RK3188 can power 2 1080p displays at the same time.

The Tronsmart T428 is expected to come with 2GB DDR3 RAM and Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with an upgrade to 4.2 to be made available soon after. The rest of the hardware specification is quite standard including 8 to 16 GB storage, micro SD expansion slot, WiFi, 1USB host and 1 micro USB for power.

The design of the Tronsmart T428 especially the casing has not been finalized yet and all that is available are just pictures of the raw board.

The T428 is not the first quad core Android Mini PC to be announced. The F9 Android set top box with a quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 Cortex-A9 and the Huaawei MediaQ M310 with a quad core HiSilicon K3V2 ARM Cortex-A9 have already been announced. Furthermore, the Zealz GK802 that features a quad core Freescale i.MX6 Quad Core has already been selling for awhile now.

Update (3/20/13): Geekbuying has started a preorder for the Tronsmart T428 at $99 with free international shipping.
